HOW DO WE RATE OUR HOTELS AND APARTMENTS?

Why do we rate our hotels?

Because we want you to know exactly what to expect on arrival in the resort. We also want to emphasise the difference between standards both within Turkey and most Mediterranean resorts. Your accommodation is the principal part of your holiday experience and we want you to understand exactly what to expect for what you pay. All accommodation is checked and rated by our experienced staff and the information provided is as accurate and as up to date as possible.

Room Rating

Š   Standard basic:  This rating is very basic and customers should understand that quality levels are normally lower than general European standards.

Š   Standard good:  This rating suggests accommodation may not be new but it might be well designed.

Š   Standard very good:  This rating for nicely designed good accommodation. You can expect comfort here.

ŠŠ Standard de luxe:  This rating for accommodation usually in very good condition and nicely decorated. Toilet and shower are of a higher standard

ŠŠŠ Luxury:  This rating for accommodation with nicely decorated, quality furnishings. Carpeted or wooden floors; fabrics in very good condition; rooms generally cleaned every day and bed linen changed regularly.

Hotel Food Rating

Š
Standard / Standard plus: Basic Turkish and international cuisine, fairly repetitive, standard continental breakfast and Turkish and/or international lunch and dinner.  Acceptable, but with virtually no ‘British’ options for lunchtime and evening meals. These types of meal are usually available in 3 stars, 3 star plus, all-inclusive and half board hotels. However, you can upgrade to a higher category by paying a supplement before you travel (minimum 14 days before departure).

Generally speaking, buffet-style meals in these hotels are neither covered nor refrigerated.

If you place a lot of emphasis on the type, quality and quantity of food you eat whilst on holiday, we suggest you book a 3 star bed & breakfast option as this gives you the freedom to eat out at good, inexpensive local restaurants.

On all-inclusive holidays the following locally produced drinks are included in the price: beer, wine, gin, vodka, water, tea, coffee, concentrated fruit juices and iced tea. Ice cream, Turkish coffee, fresh fruit juice, bottled water and all other drinks are payable locally. Hotel bars are usually opened between 10.00 and 23.00. All snacks are of the Turkish variety.
Š Standard plus: Hotel endeavours to maintain a quality product and you may expect some ‘British-style’ meals but this is not guaranteed. If you place a lot of emphasis on the type, quality and quantity of food you eat whilst on holiday, we suggest you book a 5 star all inclusive or a bed & breakfast in 3 -4 star categories option as this gives you the freedom to eat out at good, inexpensive local restaurants.

ŠŠ Standard de luxe:  Expect a standard continental breakfast but you can also expect toast, cereal and yoghurt. However, don’t expect a full English breakfast although some hotels serve sausages and baked beans in their breakfast buffet.  There will be a little more variation with cold salad options and usually 3 or 4 main courses including French fries, fish, chicken, pizza and vegetables.  This type of buffet is usually found in 4-5 star All inclusive and half board hotels.

ŠŠŠ Luxury:  In addition to a traditional Turkish breakfast you can expect an English-style breakfast but with Turkish-produced ingredients: fried eggs, omelette, sausages in sauce, baked beans, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, kebabs etc.  Buffet meals are usually varied with a choice of options. For evening meals you can usually find fish, chicken, chips, kebabs, pasta, vegetables and several kinds of salad. At tea time you will usually be offered a choice of pastries and cakes.

Drinks:  Drinks are standard in all types of hotel. Most fruit juices are of the concentrated variety. In addition you will find iced tea, locally produced beers, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Fanta (or local equivalents), water, local wine, Turkish Raki, and locally produced gin, vodka and soda. Some hotels supply drinking water in bottles which you may take to your room but this service is limited and we cannot guarantee it. All wines are local and are usually supplied from a barrel.

Bars: Bars are usually open from 10.00 am till 11.00 pm. All imported drinks cost extra unless the hotel operates an ‘Ultra All inclusive’ or ‘All Inclusive Plus’.

Mini bar: Usually empty on guests’ arrival unless indicated otherwise. Payable locally if you want the minibar filled. In some 5 star hotels mini bars may be included in the price with certain welcome drinks provided.

Staff : Although hotel staff (along with the majority of Turkish people) are very friendly, not all will speak  English although English is widely spoken in all our featured resorts.

Environment:
Most of our featured hotels have well maintained areas like gardens, restaurants, pool and beach areas. Most operate a solar power system for generating electricity and hot water. When mains electricity is used, it is not on all the time in order to conserve energy. We always advise our guests to see as much of the local area and meet as many local people as possible to get a real ‘feel’ of Turkey and its wonderful natural environment. You may wish to join one or more of the optional tours on offer locally which give you an excellent insight with regard to the history and culture of Turkey .

All our 2006 hotels and apartments have been inspected and ‘rated’ as indicated on the relevant page. Ratings are those either conferred by the local authority or, in certain cases by us in the absence of an official classification.

Air conditioning is always payable locally in 1, 2 and 3 star and in some 4 star Bed & Breakfast and Half Board accommodations.
