Antalya - The Turkish Riviera
The coastal province in the south of Turkey, Antalya enjoys some of the
clearest waters in the Mediterranean. The region is full of ancient ruins and
landmarks that date back thousands of years. There are museums and ruins that
trace back to one of the earliest civilisations. Visitors interested in the
history of Antalya must visit the great Archaeological Museum. Antalya also
keeps with modern times and offers ome really great activities in the form of
diving, boating, and all sorts of water sports during the day and by night the
city turns into a vibrant and trendy place that is ideal for dancing and a few
drinks with some of the biggest clubs in the country located in Antalya.

The rocky southwestern Mediterranean coast of
Turkey was completely undeveloped until the early 1980s so still offers some
quiet spots among its fine beaches and dramatic scenery.
Antalya's
airport is used for reaching resorts on the coast's eastern side. Destinations
to the western side are served by Dalaman. Travellers should dress respectfully
(no shorts / swimwear) when entering a religious building of any kind. It is
advisable for women to cover their arms, knees and shoulders at all times when
away from beach areas, as well as their heads when entering a mosque.
Food: Turkey takes great pride in its food and you'll generally
eat better in Turkey than in neighbouring Greece. The best options will be found
either in the larger coastal towns, or you may come across the occasional gem of
a tiny family-run establishment
Nightlife: Antalya offers the
eastern Coast's liveliest nightlife, with only Alanya and Fethiye coming
close.
Shopping: Shopping options can be limited on the Turquoise
Coast except in the larger towns, notably Fethiye Antalya and
Kas.
Days out: Close to the central town of Fethiye are the
ancient ruins of Lycian Telmessos. Dalyan on the western edge of the coast has
an internationally famous beach that's a breeding ground for the loggerhead
turtle.
Events: Antalya runs both a film and a song festival in
September/October.

Alanya
(130 mins from Antalya airport) A modern
resort at the eastern edge of the Turquoise Coast, dominated by a medieval
castle. Still with some character, it's grown up a lot since the mid 1980s to
offer hundreds of bars, restaurants and patisseries. Lively. Watersports are
available along the main beach and for a quiet moment seek out a spot on Konakli
Beach.

Antalya
(15 minutes from Antalya airport). Once
the gift of Mark Anthony to Cleopatra, now Antalya is one of the largest resorts
on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, offering a wide range of restaurants, bars, and
clubs. Its substantial medieval fortress occupies a rock point of land and
overlooking the town, its harbour and long, curving beaches. Lively nightlife,
good watersports facilities, as well as a couple of family beaches make this a
resort to suit every taste.

Belek
(25 mins from Antalya). On the eastern end
of the Turquoise Coast, Belek is a purpose-built tourist area, consisting of a
number of modern hotels and family oriented holiday villages. Near to the
notable Amphitheatre at Aspendos.

Kemer
( One hour from Antalya Airport) Kemer is a
new resort which has been successful, because it provides everything needed for
the ideal holiday, such as excellent accommodation, a sophisticated ambience,
activities, a marina, great beaches, and traditional cafes that line the
beachfront. The restaurants and shopping are very good quality, too. The
surrounding picturesque nature and cool waters make this resort ideal for your
getaway.

(60 mins from Antalya airport).Picturesquely
built around an ancient amphitheatre, and situated on a peninsula, with long
sandy beaches on both side of the headland. Lively nightlife with family appeal,
it is a resort for all.
